BlueWave Secures Code Powers to facilitate the expansion of its network within the Isle of Man.

JULY 2021 – DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN
BlueWave, an aql company, today announces that it has been granted Code Powers in order to facilitate the building, development, and expansion of its network infrastructure on the Isle of Man. The application of Code Powers supports BlueWave’s continued investment into the Island’s communications network to improve broadband services available to customers in rural areas. It will also increase competition to help bring about improved pricing and aid the delivery of the Isle of Man’s National Telecommunications Strategy.

As approved by Tynwald, BlueWave becomes a Telecommunications Code System Operator under the Town and Country Planning (Telecommunications) Development Order 2019 through the application of Code Powers. This gives a slightly altered process under the planning system, essentially, the measure will enable BlueWave to further develop and optimise the use of telecommunications infrastructure.

BlueWave’s parent company, aql (based in Leeds) also has experience operating under Code Powers granted by Ofcom since 2015.

“We’re the fourth communications company on the Isle of Man to have been granted Code Powers. This is great news for businesses and residents of the Island as we can continue our work to further improve the Island’s communications infrastructure and support the delivery of future technology that will include our 5G, LoraWAN and IoT services,” said Matthew Sayle, Head of Infrastructure - BlueWave.
