Shelley Langan-Newton Managing Director

Three years on from the acquisition of Isle of Man based telecommunications operator, Bluewave and closely following Bluewave’s 10th anniversary, we’re pleased to announce the appointment of Shelley Langan as Managing Director. Shelley brings a wealth of experience in telecoms and data and fulfils an essential on-island role.

The appointment comes after local telecoms company BlueWave Communications, was granted it’s full telecommunications licence in the Isle of Man in 2018, making BlueWave the fourth company to be awarded such a licence on the Island.

Shelley joins the company from the Isle of Man investment arm of global telecommunications company SES Satellites.

With a background working in the telecoms industry in the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom before moving to the international blue chip, SES, including time spent working across the continent in Luxembourg, The Netherlands, France and Spain, Shelley will be focused on impactful growth for the company alongside her personal ambitions for further community support and engagement across the Island.

Since the acquisition by aql, the UK based team has lent significant resource to Bluewave to build more resilience, structure and product support, readying the company to reposition as a business communications operator, with a full operator portfolio across wholesale, developer resources and also voice services.

More recently, Bluewave was granted full GSMA member status and also a full island operator.

Alfred Cannan, Minister for the Treasury, commented on Shelley’s appointment,

“I am delighted to congratulate Shelley Langan on her appointment as Managing Director of BlueWave Communications.

“This is undoubtedly recognition of Shelley’s hard work and leadership abilities and she will join a growing and impressive list of women leading successful businesses on the Isle of Man. I wish Shelley every success in developing the BlueWave brand.”

Founder and CEO of BlueWave and sister company, aql.com, Professor Adam Beaumont, said:

“Since acquiring BlueWave in 2015 we’ve invested significantly in infrastructure to ensure that we can deliver robust business connectivity and managed services. We have now built out an enterprise level network. Our investment is continuing, bringing great people into the team and I’m excited to be working with Shelley.”.

Shelley commented on her appointment,

“I’m thrilled to join BlueWave as it moves onto the next stage of it’s journey. I join a team with a passion for leadership through technological advancement and technology, with roots firmly grounded in ‘disruption through innovation’. I’m excited to move forward with the teams on and off the island to bring new products, services and technologies to the Isle of Man.”

2019 is set to be a strong year on the Island as Shelley and the team launch a wider range of enterprise services including Datacentre, cloud, voice and mobile messaging. Shelley and the team are also keen to support innovators and developers on the island, supporting them with a range of technologies including LoraWAN.
